What Is The Common Denominator Of Achievement?
At least once a year I look to see what the common dominator amongst those who are high achievers in their endeavours. This year was no exception in that there are clear patterns as to what the achievers do to reach extraordinary achievement. These include morning routines, meditation, journaling, doing less, planning around your downtime and taking action.
Most achievers attribute much of their success to morning routines. While the morning routine may vary from one to the other, they all have a morning routine that contributes to theirs achievement. For some of the more prominent podcasters the common question is “Do you practice a specific morning routine?”
Tim Ferriss and Tony Robbins
Tim Ferriss a person of much achievement and still leads a balanced life, the author of the Four Hour Work Week and the Four Hour Body ), asks every single guest that comes on his show “what is your morning routine?”then ties it to achievement. He asked Tony Robbins this question, Robbins replied it was his day primer; without it he would not be successful. The essence of this is a gratitude routine and meditation (most CEO’s attribute success to meditation). Robbins said that the beauty of gratefulness is that you cannot be angry of fearful when you are grateful. He also does 3 sets of thirty deep breaths. He also does a few things that are not available to all of us. For the interview see the http://fourhourworkweek.com/2014/10/15/money-master-the-game/ Episode 37 time 19:08
Pat Flynn’s and Hal Elrod
One of my favourite podcasts is Pat Flynn’s Smart Passive Income. Pat interviewed Hal Elrod the author of The Morning Miracle ( http://miraclemorning.com) . His life was in bad shape in every aspect when he started his morning routine and completely changed his life. This has become my own personal routine and I can attest to how well it works. I normally get up at 5 a.m. and in the past had done Transcendental Meditation technique but lately I have not been as focused as I should be. The Morning Miracle (TMM) has me focused once again. The key, for me, of the TMM is what Elrod uses the acronym SAVERS for [Silence (meditation or prayer) Affirmations Visions (including the actions to get to outcome) Exercise Scribing (The 5 Minute Journal)]. This has brought focus back to my day and started it in a very energized way and ends it with reflection on the TMM.
Tony Robbins and Eben Pagan
Tony Robbins interviewed Eben Pagan. These are two men who both practice a set morning routine and have achievements that few will ever see. At the end Robbins asked Eben (a genius when it comes to personal development, business productivity) “what’s the one thing that our listeners can do to take their business and take their life to the next level?” He said, “Create a morning success ritual.” He said it’s the most important thing you can do to set your mindset and the context for the rest of your day. Having a morning success ritual is the linchpin that determines the quality of your day, which determines the quality of your life in every way.”
Elrod, Robbins and Pat Flynn all mention the morning routine of Ray Dalio, the number one hedge fund manager in the world, he’s a billionaire; now there is achievement at an extraordinary level. He said that mediation is the number one factor in his success. He’s a billionaire, he runs the most successful hedge fund in the world.
The Five Minute Journal
Many of the interviews mention how both the interviewer and the interviewee use The Five Minute Journal I will simply say I love The Five Minute Journal. I have used many systems and found this one easy to stick to and allows the best value for the time spent which is as you might guess about five minutes. If you are not in the US you may find it expensive (I am in Canada and by the time you pay exchange and shipping it is nearly $42), but I find it worth it to me. I have since found it for $24.95 CND at Indigo online – less than the discount code I had them set up for you! To quote the home page the journal “HELPS YOU FOCUS ON THE GOOD – It’s been proven over and over again that shifting your focus to the positive can dramatically improve your happiness. The key is consistency. This journal has been created by combining the proven elements of positive psychology that can make all of the difference in your life.” One of the positive changes is that mentioned by Robbins in the benefits of gratitude. You could, as I did for a while, make your own just using the materials on their home page.
I will continue with this next blog.
